Big Warning for MTK Phone Users: Think Before You Update to Android 15

If you are using a MediaTek (MTK) phone — or you repair phones — please take 5 minutes to read this. It might save your phone from dying completely.

Android 15 is coming to many phones, but for some MTK phones, this update can cause serious damage.

Let me explain in simple words.

What’s Happening?

Some phones that run on MTK processor are showing a new problem after getting the Android 15 update.

When you install the update, a small change happens inside the phone — the security level changes from CTRL 1 to CTRL 0.

This sounds like a small thing, but it’s very risky.

Why is CTRL 0 Dangerous?

Once this protection becomes CTRL 0, the phone gets locked too deeply.

  • If someone tries to flash the phone ( like reinstalling software ),
  • Or tries to use TestPoint mode ( used by repair people to bring dead phones back ),
Heres what might happen:
  • Then the phone might suddenly stop working forever.
  • It becomes completely dead — no display, no charging, nothing.
  • Even when you connect it to a computer, the phone is not detected.
Can the Phone Be Fixed?

Yes — but only in some cases, and it’s not easy.

If your phone has EMMC storage:
  • There is a tool called JTAG Plus Programmer. It can sometimes bring your phone back to life — but it’s a hardware tool and not everyone has it.
If your phone has UFS storage:

Things are much worse.
  • UFS storage is more complicated.
  • It’s hard to write backup files to it.
  • You would need a full software backup from another working phone of the same model — and that’s very hard to find.
So for most people, once the phone dies, it stays dead.

What You Should Do Before Updating

Please don’t update blindly. Before updating your MTK phone to Android 15:

  1. Ask a technician to check if your phone has EMMC or UFS memory.
  2. Also check if the phone will change to CTRL 0 protection after updating.
  3. If you're not sure — wait and don’t update right now.
It’s better to stay safe than to lose your phone forever.
  • Important Message for Technicians and Shops
  • If you work in phone repair or own a mobile service shop, please share this warning with your team and customers.
  • Many people don’t know about this issue — and if they try to flash or update without knowing, they could lose their phones permanently.
Simple Summary
  • Some MTK phones become totally dead after Android 15 update.
  • This happens because of a change in protection level (CTRL 1 → CTRL 0).
  • Once dead, only special tools can recover the phone — and not always.
  • UFS storage phones have no simple solution.
  • Check before you update.
