Apple has today taken the wraps off its new MacBook Pro lineup, ditching the 13-inch machine and replacing it with a new M3 version of the 14-inch model. The 16-inch MacBook Pro remains, sitting at the top of the lineup.
The new lineup now starts with the M3 14-inch MacBook Pro that starts at $1,599 while those looking to upgrade to the larger 16-inch MacBook Pro can only choose between the M3 Pro and M3 Max silicon.
All of the chips come with varying numbers of CPU and GPU cores, but the top-of-the-line M3 Max can now support up to 128GB of RAM alongside up to 40 GPU cores and up to 16 CPU cores.
Buying an M3 MacBook Pro means choosing between Space Gray and Silver, but a new Space Black option has been added for those who choose an M3 Pro or M3 Max chip. The latter is very much the top-of-the-line and becomes the fastest chip that Apple has on its books. Despite that, users can expect up to 22 hours of battery life from a single charge.
Further down the lineup, the M3 Pro comes with up to an 18-core GPU and a 12-core CPU with 18GB of RAM as standard. That can be extended to 128GB if required, just like the M3 Max.
Opt for the M3 chip and you’ll get an 8-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, while 8GB of RAM is included with a maximum of 24GB on offer.
In terms of storage, the minimum you can get is now 512GB with some configurations coming with 1TB as standard. The storage can obviously be expanded as required, although buyers should expect to pay a lot if they go that route.
Beyond the new chips, not all that much has changed on the outside at least. The same displays are used, although they are now slightly brighter when showing SDR content — the new 600-nit limit is a 20% increase over the previous models.
