Apple has today released the iOS 17.5 beta 4 update to developers alongside the fourth beta of the iPadOS 17.5 software update.

The new software updates come just a week after the third betas were made available to developers for download and those who are registered can now get this latest update via the Settings app.

As ever we would suggest that only registered developers with a spare device install this beta, despite its relative maturity. Issues can and often do crop up during the beta process.

Those installing the beta will need to be signed into their developer Apple ID in order to be able to choose the beta, and those who expect any big new features are likely to be left disappointed. Most of the iOS 17 features announced in June last year have already released, and Apple is now turning its attention to this year’s WWDC event on June 10 — an event that will likely see iOS 18 previewed.

There are some changes in the iOS 17.5 beta however, with Apple adding new support for app developers who want to offer their apps for direct download via their website. That will only be available to iPhone owners in the European Union however, thanks to the Digital Markets Act and the requirements it places on Apple.

The iPadOS 17.5 beta does appear to add support for the new Apple Pencil 3 however, an accessory expected to be announced on July 7 alongside the new OLED iPad Pro and updated iPad Air.
