Long been looking closely at open-source e-commerce platforms and stumbled upon MedusaJS. How well does it fit for launching your own store compared to ready-made solutions like Shopify or WooCommerce, if flexible customization, vendor lock-in avoidance, and the ability to tailor functionality to your specific needs are important? I am also interested in how difficult it is to implement and maintain without a large team of developers. I would appreciate feedback from those who have already used this system in real projects.

For an online store, you can consider two options. If you need the simplest possible launch with a ready-made infrastructure and minimal time spent on setup, then it's worth looking into SaaS platforms like Shopify. If full control over the project, the ability to customize functionality for your tasks, and the absence of vendor lock-in are what matters, then an open source ecommerce solution like here The choice depends primarily on what is more important to you ease of launch or the flexibility of further project development.

I recommend budgeting right away for reliable Node.js hosting and a separate database. Without a minimal understanding of JavaScript, the NPM module ecosystem, and working with REST APIs, administering this engine alone will turn into pure misery.
